Microtex has developed an innovative support for Violin and Viola.

Designed for instrument makers, restorers, scholars, collectors, allows you to securely clamp the violin or viola in the most comfortable position desired and therefore easier to work with both hands.

Multiple stages of construction and finish of an instrument or parts of it, and delicate restorations and retouching can now be achieved with greater ease, accuracy and safety by having both hands free and without having to think about how to hold the instrument.

The system has been tested for one year from professional luthiers approving its use for the construction, the restoration and the study of the instrument.

The support system consists of two parts: an aluminum structure in which to fix the instrument or parts of it and a support bench.

The Aluminum Holder is fully adjustable to allow you to attach and securely hold the instrument in five points: four on the edge of the bottom or on the edge of the top, if you want the instrument upside down, and one for the neck.

All five points of attachment / support are adjustable in all directions to block where we want the instrument (violin or viola) or parts of it (top or back), safely and without tension leaving free the areas where we want to work.

The four towers of plastic material, slightly elastic, with its fork members adjustable in height help block without stress also a delicate instrument with top or bottom not perfectly flat without causing harmful twists.

The support for the neck, which is also adjustable in height and along the axis of the instrument, allows support the neck with safety and precision, without abnormal stress for neck mortise and back button, freeing up the work area.

You will have to create an interface (eg, wood and cork.) with the shape required depending on the point of contact with the neck, with the keyboard or with the scroll. This part is left to the maker and the restorer becouse multiple types of support and held are required.

The support bench, which is screwed to the Holder, is locked in bench vise or directly on the work surface. It is adjustable in height, by means of a transverse pin safety, and can rotate freely and be locked securely with an efficient locking lever.

We can then bring the instrument or parts of it in a position such as to allow to work in ergonomically correct position.

The Holder for violin / viola is an important accessory for the Discovery vision system :

we can see precisely the inside of the instruments, make sharp photos and restorations closed box.

Here's an example of how you can organize for the restoration in the neighborhood of the f-holes:

Fix the instrument on the Holder, assemble the stand with flexible arm of the Discovery to the Holder, turn on the camera and place the camera in the f-hole opposite to that on which you must work. Subsequently place the LED lighting system, supplied with the Discovery, so as to better illuminate the scene, exploiting well the angles of direction of the light and shadows. You can clearly see now the area inside the instrument where you need to work. You can also move the instrument while keeping fixed the point of view.

It is therefore to apply noninvasive surgery methods to violin making...

Also the control of the bass bar or simply the setup of the soundpost may take advantage of our complete Discoverycam vision system and violin/viola Holder.

Making instruments:

control and finish the thickness of the belly and the back without remove them from the Holder,

finishing f-holes always working with two hands,

finishing ribs, linings and blocks glued to the bottom,
